Yes, you can study for all of the University of London — or any other — law exams on your own.
Three questions to truthfully consider:
- How much of an expert are you in that particular module to feel confident about teaching yourself? Note that law exams are not about rote learning, pure memorization, and regurgitation.
- Are you aiming just to pass, or are you aiming for a First or Second Upper in a particular module? (Your answer to this question is relevant to the next question.)
- If you were a client, would you feel confident — or, at the very least, comfortable — about retaining a lawyer who scored borderline passes in many of the “bread and butter” modules (contract, crime, property, trusts, family, etc)? How would you feel if you found out that your lawyer had studied on his own and had scored poorly, or failed the first time around and had to retake the exams?
Are you ready to start?
