The University of London’s LL.B degree is entirely by distance learning.

You are assessed — 100% — based on how well you do in each 3 hour 15 minute examination.

The University does not provide face-to-face lectures, tutorials, or seminars.

There are no midterm exams or papers to write. (Remember, assessment is based entirely on the exam.)

It is totally up to you whether you choose to:

Essentially, you choose what works best for you.  (Repeat: you are assessed solely on the exam.)

When you pay the University the module fee, the University will send you a package comprising a study guide and a book of statutes specific to that particular subject.

(The study guide lists the textbook(s) and casebooks you should purchase — and read!! — if you want to do well in that module.  These books are not included in your module fee.)

Then there are the materials you will receive electronically, such as periodic updates on any changes to the law, or recent cases that are relevant.

An e-version of the study guide, .pdf readings, and some audio/video recordings are also available online, in the university’s online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

Note that the audio/video recordings are few and far between; often were recorded several years earlier; and are not intended to cover the topics for which you will be examined.

For some modules, the University may offer formative assessments several months prior to the exam. Students who wish to submit their papers for trial marking may do so. The papers are returned with the marker’s written comments and a suggested mark, though this does not count towards your grade.

Even though this is a distance learning degree, students quickly realize that passing the exams is not based on a “Read – Memorize – Regurgitate” formula.
